Peace of Thread….

Recently I learned about a local, non-profit organization that works with female refugees living in the Clarkston area.  The organization gives the women sewing machines and teaches them how to sew unique handbags which the company, Peace of Thread, then sells to help these women support their families. This past week I had the privilege of tagging along with the founder and meeting with some of the women.  Its a great organization, so I wanted to post their website for all of you to check out! Enjoy!

Theatrical Outfit…

Theatrical Outfit is a local theater in Atlanta which my family and I have been going to for years. This past week I was able to see their extended production of Freud’s Last Session… a 2 person play speculating on the topics C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud would have discussed had they ever met. (Random fun fact: Freud’s Last Session is the longest running Off-Broadway show! Who knew?) Anyway, it was incredibly thought-provoking and the set and acting were great, but unfortunately, their production of the play is now over. Which is something about theater that I always find sad… it is all so temporary. But seeing the play got me thinking about how wonderful theater is and how much I love going and how I wish more people went to the theater. So this is my reminder to all of you – go see a play. Support the arts. Enjoy exploring other worlds. Its good for you. Scientifically, somehow I feel like it has to be. I should probably look that up though. Haha. But for now, check out Theatrical Outfit’s website and get inspired! (For the record, I am so excited that A Wrinkle In Time is on their schedule for the spring! I know thats a ways away, but still. Have you read that book? If not, go rent it from the library and read it. You have plenty of time to finish it before April!)

The Hobbit!!!

I have been a huge Tolkien fan for as long as I can remember. Like most fans of a book, I was nervous and excited when the LOTR movies were coming out because I longed to see such an incredible story told visually but I was definitely worried its portrayal might do injustice to the one I had created in my head. And while there are certainly things about the movies that irk me (House of Healing, anyone?!), I am a huge Peter Jackson fan and am incredibly excited that he is currently working on The Hobbit! Which means that my teacher won huge points last week when he showed us a video Peter Jackson had posted on his facebook page about The Hobbit! (Side note… I love how facebook has taken over our world so much that even big budget movies are paying attention to it!) Anyway, I went back and watched some of the other stuff Jackson posted and thought I’d share his first production video with yall. Knowing alllllll the time and energy that Derek and I put into our little 5 minute video I definitely have a new appreciation for his work! Check out the set! And the costumes! And the blocking, and sword fighting, and training! And all of the people you see everywhereeee! Art is so rarely created alone. I think that quote about needing a village to raise a child may apply to the creative world as well…

Update On Holiday Portraits…

In order to help pay for our portfolio show next year, my class is currently in the midst of shooting our annual Holiday Portraits!  We have worked incredibly hard on our set and learned a lot throughout this process! Today marks DAY 3 of shooting and is my first night to actually shoot!

Check out our blog at: GTC Holiday Portraits

And check out a little promo video Derek and I did as well!:

M&D…

At the beginning of October I was blessed enough to go to Little Rock, AR, to shoot engagement pictures for one of my most favorite people in the world and his fiancee (who is now one of my most favorite people in the world too!).  We shot at a couple locations and were even able to borrow a tandem bike! It was a great shoot… mainly because on top of being super nice and easy going they are both absolutely beautiful! Definitely made my job a lot easier!   Here are a couple of my favorites!

**** Special thanks to MJS and Diana! Love you both tons

“Post Haste”…

After hours and hours and hours of filming and editing and re-filming and re-editing, Derek and I are finally finished with our first ever Canon 5D Mark II video!  Its been a crazy process, but I am so excited how it all finally came together!

The assignment was to make a 3-7 minute film without dialogue.  Ours is about the journey of a postcard.

Enjoy!

Low Key…

There’s nothing like finding out at midnight that your model for your 8am shoot can no longer come. There’s also nothing like a best friend who offers at midnight to go to Walmart to buy you new props and who then wakes up super early on her day off to drive hours and save the day! I am truly incredibly blessed… not only because I have an amazing best friend but also because I have an incredibly beautiful best friend!!! This shoot was by far one of the most fun shoots I’ve done this entire year. I can’t wait to share more images with you guys, but for now I wanted to post the one my teacher selected for critique.  Today in critique she said she really liked this one because the light manages to be dramatic, but still soft.

**** Special thanks to my wonderful Ashley! I don’t know what I would do without you!
